Photogravure
A photogravure is a mechanical process that involves coating a copper plate with gelatin tissue, and then etching, which produces a photograph like print. It was developed in the year 1852, however, became more known in the year 1878. It was created with the aim of having an image that can last for a very long time. While it was used in the process of illustration. It did not end up lasting very long because of how long the process was and how only a limited amount could be produced at once.
Rotogravure
In the early1890s, a few years after the public knowledge of the photogravure technique, a new technique called Rotogravure was created. This technique involved engraving of a picture or an image on an image carrier. According to Dusan Stulik in The Atlas of Analytical Signatures of Photographic Processes, The rotogravure process was used for the printing of postcards and became widespread only during the early part of the twentieth century, when newspapers adopted the new technology. This process was one that significantly assisted newspapers. While photogravure was good, it was not good enough to print what was considered a good quality image in numerous newspapers. This was the main use of rotogravure. Even after so many years since its invention rotogravure is still used today for the production of mass printing.
The Leica camera
The Leica camera was invented and by the year 1925 and it was officially introduced to the public. The Leica 35mm camera was the first camera to enable photojournalists to put a film into a camera in order for them to be taken on the camera as well. This camera was much more efficient for photojournalists because of how portable and easy it was and how much more pictures could be taken on it was especially when it came to carrying the camera around to places where it is needed. The camera allowed them to take still photos with better quality.

The year 1930 is marked in history as the beginning of the Great Depression. With the help of photojournalists, Americans had knowledge of what was going on through images that were taken and published. The great depression although it was a tragedy, was an event that promoted photojournalists. Photojournalists were certainly there to capture various moments especially after the invention of the Leica 35mm camera, information about it was taken and shared by photojournalists.
The First Digital Camera
The first digital camera was invented in the year 1974 with a weight of 8pounds. Back then, it produced just black and white pictures. The invention of the first digital camera was a significant time in the history of photojournalism. The invention of these cameras made it much easier for photojournalists to take pictures as well as to review them later on. With the introduction of the digital camera came the decrease in the use of film cameras such as the Leica 35mm because of how advanced and how much better quality the digital cameras had.
The First Camera Phone
By the year 1999, the first camera phone was invented. This began a trend that still remains to date. After its initial invention, although the price was pretty high, it grabbed the attention of many people. Slowly other phone companies such as Nokia, Motorola, and LG adapted the same mechanism which leads to digital phones today. The first camera phone not only assisted photojournalists with taking pictures on their phones, but it also assisted them with multimedia and the sharing of their various works all over the world. From the use of social media such as Instagram and snap chat which require cameras, the digital phone was a great assistance.
